UGANDA - Idi Amin, atrocities, murder and mayhem – right? Wrong! Idi Amin was around when John Lennon was alive and JFK was President of the US.
Since then, this country has transformed itself. It's now held up as a shining example of how an economy should be in Africa and how a country can turn around the fortunes of it's people when it's properly run.
Everywhere you will find people who are extremely friendly and who welcome you with open arms. The hotels are adequate, the roads are quite good for this continent and the airline connections from anywhere to Uganda are easy.
Uganda is now probably the single most exciting safari destination in Africa. It's rich mosaic of rainforest, savanna, montane and wetland habitats harbours an almost peerless diversity of large fauna. Where else, over the space of a few days, could one hike to within a few metres of gorillas and chimpanzees, navigate tropical waterways bustling with hippo and elephant, explore open plains grazed by thousands of kob antelope with their attendant prides of lions, and tick a host of iconic African birds ranging from the flamboyant great blue turaco to the uniquely peculiar shoebill? |
