13 DAY MADAGASCAR TRIP
Day 1: Fly to Antananarivo.. Antananarivo, capital of the Island, is built on a series of hills, is a fascinating cultural mix of architectural styles as unique and varied as the inhabitants of this sprawling city.
Overnight at a comfortable hotel.
Days 2-3: Drive to Perinet Reserve, an eastern rainforest reserve - is famed for its large variety of upland rainforest animals and plants. Brown lemurs, red-bellied lemurs, leaf tailed gecko, naswata chameleon and elephant chameleon and is one of the last strongholds of the mythical Indri-Indri, the largest of all the lemurs. These territorial Indri-Indri emit a haunting cry uniquely similar to the singing of whales.
Explore the forests of Perinet with a local guide, on the look out for Indri Indri's as well as the other unique denizens of the area. Visit to a local village.

Day 4: Fly to Fort Dauphin and Berenty Reserve, a spiny forest with a bewildering variety of endemic succulents as well. It's Sifakas, and the Ring-tailed lemurs have featured in many National Geographic and BBC documentaries.

Day 5: Morning walk in the reserve and then a flight to Antananarivo. Visit the local markets and maybe buy some Lambda weaving, woven mats and baskets or some Antaimoro paper.

Days 6-8: Fly to Maroantsetra. Maroantsetra and the Masoala Peninsula, in the North-east of Madagascar, is the largest remaining tract of primary rainforest reaching the coast line, meeting tropical coral reefs. This area is a particularly rich eco-system and distinctive species here are the red-ruffed lemur and the unique and elusive Aye-Aye.
A boat trip to Nosy Mangabe Bay, which lies off the mainland. This is pristine island and hike here on the look-out for lemurs. There is also a chance of sighting hump-back whales. we have a picnic lunch in the forest. A second boat trip, this time up the lagoon which runs in to the Masoala Bay. Here there are excellent birds and a picnic lunch at a village where you will have an opportunity to meet and talk with the people and to explore the village and village life.
