  BOTSWANA ITINERARY

9 DAY SPLENDOURS OF BOTSWANA

DAY 1-2: Arrive at Kasane Airport and per light aircraft transfer to Savute Airstrip and transfer to a luxury camp.
Savute pulses with a timeless rhythm, a melody of mysterious wet and dries cycles that moulds its landscape and determines its inhabitants. A winding fossil channel vanishes into the sweeping expanse of a relic marsh, where Savute's extraordinary flat countryside is relieved by the spectacular fortress of the Gubatsa Hills.
Game walks and early morning and late afternoon exploration by open Landrovers allows close looks at a huge variety of grazing herds including impala, tsessebe, giraffe, and zebra. Chobe hosts about 450 species of birds, with the Savute section alone recording about 300 species, from brilliant lilac-breasted rollers and to white-fronted bee-eaters. Lions, elephants and other predators are especially prolific here.
Savute is well known for its exciting game viewing and excellent bird life.
Overnight in a luxurious tented camp.

DAY 3-4 : This morning you will be transferred to Savute Airstrip to meet your light aircraft transfer to Xaxaba Airstrip. Board a charter flight that carries you to a luxury camp in the fabled Okavango Delta. On the flight, enjoy exceptional aerial views of the Delta's beautiful checkerboard of green islands and blue waterways. The long, winding Okavango River is "the river that never finds the sea"—it disappears into the remarkable maze of channels and islands that you know as the Delta, a wetland wilderness surrounded by the parched landscape of the Kalahari.
The luxury camp set in the cool retreat of a canopy of indigenous trees overlooking a palm-lined lagoon. It is located in the Xaxaba section of the central Okavango Delta. Xaxaba (pronounced “ka-kaaba”) means “island of the tall trees” and this part of the Delta is famed for its prolific bird and animal life.
Activities at Eagle Island include guided walks and game drives as well as Delta-style safaris by mokoro, in which you glide silently by traditional dugout. You will encounter both wetland and savannah animals, including red lechwe, waterbuck, hippo, and crocodile along with the sable, kudu, wildebeest, and tsessebe roaming the open plains.
Predators include lion, leopard, wild dog, and cheetah. The plethora of food in the Delta's clear waters attracts every variety of bird with a hearty appetite for fish, including herons, cormorants, pelicans, darters and storks. The area around camp boasts an extremely high concentration of magnificent fish eagles.
Overnight in a luxury tented camp.

DAY 5-6 : Fly to Moremi. All the major predators as well as elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, waterbuck, red lechwe and many more can be seen in this area. The habitats vary from cathedral mopane forests and ebony groves to open flood plains and palm fringed lagoons. Activities include game drives, boat rides and mokoro rides, which take you into the heart of the delta where one explores her many channels, waterways and islands. Overnight in a luxury tented camp.

Day 7-8: Fly to Khwai. As this is a private concession there are night drives and walks, (not permitted in the National Parks or Game Reserves) as well as the usual game drives. The vegetation here is quite different from the Western section of Moremi where great stands of leadwood, and mopane woodlands occur in close proximity to open grasslands and the Khwai River. Lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, as well as a multitude of other animals, including elephant, buffalo, zebra, hippo, giraffe etc can be found here. Accommodation is in a private luxury mobile tented camp.

Day 9 : After an early morning game-drive, fly to Maun.
